Pre Panda and Penguin working as an SEO consultant and supplying SEO Agency Services was less of a headache than it is today.
The bad old days of cheap black hat link building are dead and gone.
BUT…
the message has still not filtered through to the average company CEO or Marketing Chief ,
who still thinks that getting thier site to the #1 on Google for a broad industry term is their goose with the golden egg.
SEO has gone back to basics. This means fundamentally that to get great rankings you need to attract natural backlinks to your clients amazing content. That requires commitment from the client to “blog like crazy” combined with a suitable and well thought out, goal oriented, and appropriate content strategy.
SEO is now integrated with Social Media; there is no getting away from it. Thus business development now requires a more “open door” police that invites participation and engagement and encourages collaborative relationships with other organisations.
Greg Shuey, VP of Client Services at SEO.com has written a fantastic article that covers 10 things any business or business owner must know, consider and do to prepare their business for SEO.
When I had done reading I stood up and cheered.
If you are a Marketing executive or small business owner you will do yourself a huge favour by taking the time to read this. If you are an SEO Agency, well, save yourself a few headaches. Print this out and attach it to your terms and conditions.
Great back up reading on this subject is an article by SEO.com’s Brian Jensen on how to become an expert in relationships and how can relationships lead to links.
